the BIG adventures of a little girl...

WELCOME to the world of Madeleine Mary, a charming little princess with a neverending smile, bright blue eyes, and an insatiable curiosity that keeps her parents constantly on their toes.

My First Birthday Came Early

Today we had a party to celebrate my birthday, and it was such a big, BIG day! All of my Aunties were there (even Aunt Dan), but none of my uncles. I did have one GREAT-uncle there, in Uncle Michael. There's so much to tell, I almost don't know where to start. I know... Daddy usually says something about starting at the beginning. So, I woke up, ate breakfast, put on my whale shirt (Auntie Jenny gave me the nickname, SPOUT, at Thanksgiving), waited for the people... yada, yada, yada...

My cousin, Daniel, and I played with some of my toys (at one point we were both on my rocking horse). Grandma Mary got a few pictures of us, which isn't easy since we don't like to stay still for long. My cousin, Gunnar, played video games, but no one told him the reset button is one of "my toys" too. It's really cool. If you push that button, the picture on TV changes, and the person playing goes, "ARRGGGH!" It's most fun to do in the middle of Pac-Man. Don't ask me why. It just is.

When you're the birthday girl, they make you wear a funny hat while they all stand around laughing, pointing, and taking pictures. This tiara wasn't so bad, especially since it came with a matching wand and flashing gems.

On a plate, sparkly, and on fire? Oh, yeah, I can't wait to get my hands on that!

I do not dive in to things. I prefer to use a delicate, two-finger taste-testing method. Everybody was waiting for me to get to it so they could have their cake too. Well, not Daniel. He could just barely reach the dessert plate, so he'd been sampling frosting off one cupcake all day! I'm going to learn sooooooooooo much from him.

Mommy broke into my cupcake to see what I would do with it. Mostly, I just played with it. I guess I'm a frosting girl like her. Pretty much all of mine was eaten when they took the plate away from me, most of the cake was still there.

Then we opened presents. Aunt Dan & Auntie Karen gave me an airplane (it even has a girl pilot! Was my flyboy Aunt hinting at something?), and I just wanted to keep playing with that! We did finally get through everything. Boy, did I get lots of clothes (Auntie Sherry, stay out of the baby section for a while), books (Boppa & Grandma Gina, can't wait to explore my new library), and toys (Auntie Jenny, Daddy & Mommy weren't sure how you'd choose from all the Word World guys, but duh...BUG!). I'll be very busy, very smart, and very well-dressed for quite a while. Thank you to everyone, I enjoyed your company most of all.

Did I mention I missed my nap this morning? Boy, was I tired.

Just think it three days, it will really be my birthday. I don't know what Daddy & Mommy have planned, but I where ever I go, I'll have my new doll from Grandma Mary. "Baby Stella" has her own first birthday outfit, so it will be fun to carry her around that day.
