the BIG adventures of a little girl...

WELCOME to the world of Madeleine Mary, a charming little princess with a neverending smile, bright blue eyes, and an insatiable curiosity that keeps her parents constantly on their toes.

She's Here!

I'm officially a BIG SISTER now! My sweet baby sister, Delaney Ann, was born April 18 at 9:57 pm. She was 20 inches long and weighed in at 6 lbs 12.5 ounces. We were out to dinner with Boppa & Grandma, Aunt Dan & Aunt Karen, and Auntie Sherry to celebrate Mom's birthday. I went home with Grandma, Boppa, Dan, and Karen. The buggy took Mom, Daddy, and Sherry to the hospital. About three hours later, my sister was sharing her first cries with the world.

We've all been very busy since she came along. I love to give her kisses and help her cry. Mom says I imitate all of "Waney's" cries spot on! Even with a new baby, I still get lots of attention. I've spent lots of time at Grandma's and with Auntie Sherry. She even came over and played with me and my dollhouse.

Auntie Sherry has been a big help to Mom & Daddy also since Delaney has had some trouble with her weight. She only weighed 6 pounds on Wednesday for her first appointment with the pediatrician. She's been more interested in sleeping than eating since everyone was still at the hospital, and it wasn't changing much once we brought her home. Mom & Auntie Sherry have been working to get her to eat more, and I'm pleased to say, I can now see that my sister's eyes are blue (though some people are thinking they'll soon be brown) because she's finally keeping them open for more than three seconds. She goes back tomorrow for a weight check. She's been eating like a champ (or Daddy) for the last two days, so everyone is optimistic she's gained at least a few ounces.

It's Mom's Day!

In honor of my mom, I'll sing one of my favorite songs...

HAPP BURTDAY TO YOU
HAPP BURTDAY TO YOU
HAPP BURTDAY MAMA

HAPP BURTDAY TO YOU...

Good job *clap, clap, clap*!
Thank you very much much.
Ta-waaaaa!

An Afternoon at the Park

Daddy & Mom both came home early from work today so they could do something fun with me and Auntie Sherry (she's here for a long stretch on baby watch). We ended up going to the park. I love parks. Especially parks with swings. My second favorite park toy would have to be the slides, though I'm really getting attached to the climbing things and tunnels.
After I heard we were going to the park, I couldn't get my coat and shoes fast enough. We went outside, but I didn't see my park anywhere. Even after everyone kept telling me we had to drive to the park, I kept asking, "Where's Maddie's park?"
Finally we got there...yay for the swings. Both Daddy and Auntie Sherry each spent some time swinging with me, but Mom didn't fit comfortably enough to enjoy it too.

There was a little wind so Daddy tried to fly kites. I asked for my Batman kite so I could fly kites too, but no one knew where it was (Mom's note: We've never had a Batman kite...never even seen a Batman kite, so we don't know why she's been insisting for over a month that she has one!). I tried to catch the kite!
After lots of fun playing, running, climbing, swinging, blowing my bubble whistle, and checking out the other kids, I was pretty tired. Not that I was ready to leave, but Daddy was getting hungry...and Daddy's hunger rules at our house. (Daddy's note: When Maddie was home with me watching Dragon Tales, everyone on the show went to the park. Maddie started wondering where HER park was. I think we'll be spending a lot of time there in the future!)

What's Lurking Behind That Tent?

Mom noticed my tent in funny position the other night. Then she realized it was moving around by itself. She decided to get the camera out. Right she took the first picture, she heard me say, "camera." Then I popped out my head out, and said, "CHEESE!"
Mom missed that shot, but after she asked me to play peek-a-boo with her, I stuck out my head again. She didn't get a picture behind the tent, but I had two crates of books dumped around me. I was happily relaxing on my fish pillows and reading Golden Books...before I was so rudely interrupted.

I Love My Bed!

The other day after my nap, we made a quick trip to the grocery store. As soon as we got home I gathered some of my stuffed animals and headed for my bed. I tucked my buddies in, and got out some of my favorite books to read to them. The book with me is Joy at Mount Rushmore (from Grandma Mary). I love that book and enjoy telling the story myself. I stayed there until Daddy said it was time to get in my chair for dinner (close to thirty minutes). Hopefully, this week someone will pick a color so we can get the walls painted already!

HAPPY EASTER!!

Today was a big, big day for me! After the egg hunt yesterday, I couldn't wait for more Easter fun today. It started awfully early, though! Mom & Daddy woke me up at 7:00 to get dressed up for Mass. Daddy kept rushing us along to make sure we got there early enough to sit near the front close to Great-Gommie & Great-Grandpa Leo. I was tired during Mass, but I still made sure to sing along with Grandma Mary and the rest of the choir. Afterwards, we went to breakfast with all those grandparents and Great-Uncle Michael. Before we at, I found out the Easter Bunny made a stop at Grandma Mary's house with a basket for me.
By the time we got home, the Easter Bunny had visited there too!

I did take a nice nap, starting on the way home, before it was time to go to Aunt Karen & Aunt Dan's house. Auntie Sherry, Grandma Gina, and Boppa also went over there. Can you believe the Easter Bunny had been there too?!?
She left me a dozen eggs hidden around the yard.
Posing with the last egg...we went inside to open them. Some had Little People (I LOVE my "peoples"), some had chocolate, and some even had change for my piggy bank. It was lots of fun!
Everyone wanted to get pictures of my Easter dress without my sweater covering up the top. I helped this out myself! After Mom & Daddy had me try on too many dresses that didn't make me smile, they gave me this one. It made me smile, twirl, and demand a mirror so I could see myself. They decided that meant it was time to quit looking. Mom & I went shopping alone one day and found the shoes. Again, Mom let me help pick them out. Though I surprised her by not picking the pink ones!

Easter Egg Hunt

This afternoon Daddy, Mom, and Aunt Sherry took me to my first Easter egg hunt. There were eggs hidden in the grass, in the little bit of snow still on the ground, and even in the trees.
The entire event was over very quickly, but Daddy helped me find three eggs.
I even got to meet the Easter Bunny. She was very nice and gave me another egg. I wasn't very happy when I realized she wasn't there anymore. Daddy made the executive decision to skip the sundae buffet (he didn't want to wait in line) and go to the Dairy Queen instead. My chocolate shake was excellent!

Maddie's Big News

I'm somewhere in among too tired, too lazy, or too picky to have pictures just yet, but Maddie is now in a "big girl bed." It's funny she even uses that term for the bed, but big girl pants to her are just "girl pants." Anyway, we've been trying to do this since about November, and really intended to have it done no later than her birthday. Two months later, FINALLY it's done.

She's actually been napping exclusively on beds (ours, Grandma's, Sherry's starlight suite, the Teepee) since about the age of one. When Jeff saw Daniel's new bed back then, he was inspired to plan to build a duplicate for Mad. Well, it was started, Aunt Karen & Aunt Dan came offering a choice of some beds they didn't need including Karen's childhood bed. Since I've always loved that little white bed, I was thrilled. It was probably for the best all around. Despite the best of intentions, Jeff can't always find the time to build what he wants...especially now when he could be playing with his little girl instead!!!

Maddie was excited on Sunday evening when we said they were bringing her big girl bed, and even watched out the window for a while. She was ready to use the Tink sheets that she found about two months ago in my not so tricky hiding spot. So she waited, with a big smile, as Daddy & Aunt Dan set up the bed, put on the sheets, and added her beloved purple quilt (made by her great-aunt Vickie). She got in bed right away, and wanted to stay there! She's slept there now every day and night. She's still a bit distracted by the novelty of it, and takes a little longer to go to sleep. Once she's gone through her routine of playing with the bedknobs, rails of the headboard, kicking the wall, etc...she tucks herself in, and is asleep in two seconds.

Hopefully, we'll have some pictures soon. We need to paint, but haven't yet picked out a color. Though Mad suggested cobalt blue or bright red...and even tore the samples right off the page!
